Forgiveness

As far as sunrise is from sunset, God has separated us
from our sins.—Psalm 103:12

Smart people know how to hold their tongue; their
grandeur is to forgive and forget.—Proverbs 19:11

“In prayer there is a connection between what God
does and what you do. You can’t get forgiveness from
God, for instance, without also forgiving others. If you
refuse to do your part, you cut yourself off from God’s
part.”—Matthew 6:14-15

Peter got up the nerve to ask, “Master, how many times
do I forgive a brother or sister who hurts me? Seven?”
Jesus replied, “Seven! Hardly. Try seventy times
seven.”—Matthew 18:21-22

“Listen to this carefully. I’m warning you. There’s nothing
done or said that can’t be forgiven. But if you persist
in your slanders against God’s Holy Spirit, you are
repudiating the very One who forgives, sawing off the
branch on which you’re sitting, severing by your own
perversity all connection with the One who forgives.”
—Mark 3:28-29

“When you assume the posture of prayer, remember
that it’s not all asking. If you have anything against
someone, forgive—only then will your heavenly Father
be inclined to also wipe your slate clean of sins.”
—Mark 11:25

“Impressive, isn’t it? She was forgiven many, many sins,
and so she is very, very grateful. If the forgiveness is
minimal, the gratitude is minimal.”—Luke 7:47

“If you forgive someone’s sins, they’re gone for good.
If you don’t forgive sins, what are you going to do with
them?”—John 20:23

All that passing laws against sin did was produce more
lawbreakers. But sin didn’t, and doesn’t, have a chance
in competition with the aggressive forgiveness we call
grace. When it’s sin versus grace, grace wins hands
down.—Romans 5:20

Live creatively, friends. If someone falls into sin, forgivingly
restore him, saving your critical comments for
yourself. You might be needing forgiveness before the
day’s out.—Galatians 6:1

Be gentle with one another, sensitive. Forgive one
another as quickly and thoroughly as God in Christ forgave
you.—Ephesians 4:32

God’s readiness to give and forgive is now public. Salvation’s
available for everyone!—Titus 2:11

Make this your common practice: Confess your sins
to each other and pray for each other so that you can
live together whole and healed. The prayer of a person
living right with God is something powerful to be reckoned
with.—James 5:16

Your sins are forgiven in Jesus’ name.—1 John 2:12
