I know how bad I’ve been; my sins are staring me
down.—Psalm 51:3

“Your eye is a lamp, lighting up your whole body. If you
live wide-eyed in wonder and belief, your body fills up
with light. If you live squinty-eyed in greed and distrust,
your body is a dank cellar.”—Luke 11:34

I do my level best to keep a clear conscience before
God and my neighbors in everything I do.—Acts 24:16

When outsiders who have never heard of God’s law follow
it more or less by instinct, they confirm its truth by
their obedience. They show that God’s law is not something
alien, imposed on us from without, but woven
into the very fabric of our creation. There is something
deep within them that echoes God’s yes and no, right
and wrong.—Romans 2:14-15

If you notice that you are acting in ways inconsistent
with what you believe—some days trying to impose
your opinions on others, other days just trying to
please them—then you know that you’re out of line. If
the way you live isn’t consistent with what you believe,
then it’s wrong.—Romans 14:23

Now that the worst is over, we’re pleased we can report
that we’ve come out of this with conscience and faith
intact, and can face the world. But it wasn’t by any
fancy footwork on our part. It was God who kept us
focused on him, uncompromised.—2 Corinthians 1:12

If you know the right thing to do and don’t do it, that,
for you, is evil.—James 4:17

Keep a clear conscience before God so that when
people throw mud at you, none of it will stick. They’ll
end up realizing that they’re the ones who need a bath.
—1 Peter 3:16

Let’s not just talk about love; let’s practice real love.
This is the only way we’ll know we’re living truly, living
in God’s reality. It’s also the way to shut down debilitating
self-criticism, even when there is something to it.
For God is greater than our worried hearts and knows
more about us than we do ourselves.—1 John 3:18-20
